Two Holidays in One?!?!?

Juneteenth is a holiday many do not know is a federal holiday, as it is quite a new addition to the federal holiday canon. I appreciate it's inclusion, both from a cultural standpoint and since I get a day off work. While I do not typically use my days off as wisely as I would like, for Juneteenth I did indeed have plans, picking up my friend so that we could go watch this new horror film he wanted to see, Leviticus. The day consisted more of driving than actual movie watching, but I was not very frustrated about this. I enjoyed the long drive in fact, due to the company of my good friend who makes an excellent conversation partner. It was good catching up, especially since watching a movie is not itself a very good time to catch up with someone.

The film itself was not great, but it was servicable. It at least gave me and my friend something to discuss and we both had different take aways from the film. My friend thought I was only going to take him as far as my place and he would have to find someone else to drive him all the way home, but I ended up just taking him all the way to his house as I found the alternative quite silly. It was technically an inconvience to me but I did not mind. He said he would pay me gas money but I didn't press him on the issue so I don't forsee ever getting that money, which does not bother me.

The following Sunday was father's day. Much like mother's day before it, I would drive up to my city of birth to watch a movie with my father and his fiancee. This film he picked was Obession, a film I had already seen but did not mind viewing again as it has been over a month since I first saw it and the movie had blown up in popularity significantly since then. I had the same takeaway I did upon a first viewing and stand by my believe the movie is much funnier than it is scary, something which I think is intentional on the part of the film and that the movie is all the better for it. My father and his fiancee enjoyed it as well, something which I was pleased by as I wasn't sure how they would react to it.

After the film I drove to his house where I ate some of his leftovers for dinner and watched part of a World Cup match with him on television. I did not know he had gotten into the event recently, but he seemed quite invested in it. I also met his new dog, who was quite cute. It is his second dog he has gotten in a very short amount of time following the death of two dogs they had previously. I do wish they would chill a bit and maybe just have two dogs for a while, but for whatever reason they feel it is necessary to have four dogs at all times. I do prefer this new dog to the last new dog, although that is mostly because the last new dog doesn't seem to like me very much whereas this one was quite the attention whore.
