Mothers Day 2026

For mother's day I drove back to the city where I grew up to spend some time with my mother and great-grandmother.

Although I live alone and away from home I still like to drive back on occasion to spend time with family, when there is good reason too.

The film "The Devil Wears Prada 2" came out the weekend before. Both my mother and great-grandmother desired to watch it and actually attempted to the weekend it first came out, but were unable to get tickets in time.

I had not seen the first film orginally, however in preperation I would view the film. I did particularly enjoy the orginal, although there were many things about it I admired. I was not holding especially high hopes for the sequel, but I do not mind watching movies I know I won't enjoy when I am with company.

I arrived to the auditorium exactly at the scheduled showtime, at which point I joined my family members in the lobby who had just purchased concessions. I do not see a point at arriving to theaters early, especially in the era of assigned seats and online ticketing. The film doesn't start until well after the listed showtime anyways so it isn't like you risk missing much if you show up exactly on time even if you need to get tickets or concessions or need to use the restroom or what have you.

We all sat down to watch our film and sat through the previews, none of which particularly interested me. The film itself was not my cup of tea either, as anticipated. In fact, I really did loathe the movie and think it is a completely creatively bankrupt enterprise. My other family members seemed to enjoy it though, even my step-father, who joined us for the film.

I then went back to my mom's house where we did not much of anything for a while until we were hungry for dinner. We went out to a recently opened chinese mega-buffet, which I had already gone to with my dad a couple months prior. I enjoyed the variety of food, as did my mom and step-dad. I ate 2 plates, and although I could've eaten more, the others seemed eager to leave. After we finished our meal I made the drive back home.
